Welcome Interest Groups
Interest Groups and Committees

At Etz Chayim, we celebrate the diversity of our members’ backgrounds and interests. Whether looking for something spiritual, educational or social, we encourage you to get involved. There are a number of auxiliary groups as well as Committees for members to join, from Special Events to Bikkur Cholim, House & Maintenance to Education, and everything in between.

Please contact us for information on how to join any of our groups or for feedback.

Groups and Committees

Bikkur Cholim

Our tradition of being a caring, warm and supportive community is meaningfully expressed through its Bikkur Cholim (visiting the sick) group. Members of this group provide comfort and support to those who are ill and the elderly by visiting them in hospital or at home.

Etz Chayim Community Choir

Etz Chayim has a tradition of amateur choirs going back several years. The choir sings at services on the High Holy Days and selected special occasions. The choir is, as much as any other ‘group’ or activity in the Etz Chayim community, a meeting place for those who enjoy the fellowship and social interaction. The choir welcomes people of all ages who love music and enjoy singing.

Education Committee is responsible for planning and implementing all educational policies.

The Finance Committee reviews the financial needs of the congregation, and oversees and recommends investments. The Committee regularly reports to the Board on the synagogue's annual income and expenses.

Fundraising & Special Events

This committee oversees and develops creative fund-raising projects.

House & Maintenance

This committee oversees the upkeep and renewal of our facilities.

L'Chayim Catering

A group of enthusiastic volunteers who cater for social functions and life cycle events.

The Membership Committee goal is to increase our membership and to welcome new members and ensure that they have a positive experience by keeping in touch and encouraging their involvement in our communal life.

The Network Group

The Network Group provides a monthly educational and social opportunity for senior members. The group's main activity is organising an invited speaker/luncheon program throughout the year.

Publicity & Publications

Editorial and Publications Committee looks after our brochures, publications and magazine and general publicity opportunities.

The Ritual Committee works closely with the clergy and the Board to recommend innovations and changes to our services and ritual practices.

The Shalom Group

A group of congregants ranging in age from teenagers to seniors, its task it to welcome worshippers to our services and provide them with any information they might need. Belonging to this group is a good opportunity to serve the community and, at the same time, to make new friends.
